The INITIAL survey

INITIAL: Involving patients and the public In sTatistIcal Analysis pLans

The INITIAL survey is the first step in a journey to make discussions about statistical aspects of trials more open and transparent. Statistical aspects of trials are often described in a plan - the statistical analysis plan. We aim to find out what statistical aspects are most critical to involve patients and the public. To do that, we will ask stakeholders (public partners, statisticians, trial researchers, clinicians) to fill out a survey with two rounds. We will assess which items have the highest scores, and publish the results to support stakeholders planning patient and public involvement. This blog aims to help you fill out the survey by giving clear explanations to each statistical aspect in the survey within the context of a fictional toothpaste trial.
